The Waycross Fire Department coordinates outdoor burning by administering a permit system. Residents of the City of Waycross can obtain a burn permit by calling the Waycross Fire Department at 287-2937 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Permits are good for the day of issuance only and all fires must be extinguished by night fall. Permits will only be issued for the burning of residential yard vegetation only. A site inspection is not required.

Burning of commercial land clearing debris requires an inspection by the Fire Prevention Bureau to ensure compliance with the Georgia Clean Air Act as well as other applicable state and local regulations. Upon completion of the inspection and the site receives clearance, a fire marshal will issue a permit.
