Reason for Nomination:
The Concrete / Drainage Crew was reassigned to the Engineering Division in July 2006. This crew has been a welcome addition to the engineering team due to the quality and craftsmanship of the employees assigned to this work group. Responsibilities include installation, maintenance, and repair of all storm drain pipes and structures, sidewalks, curbs, concrete driveways, and potholes. The broad scope of responsibilities requires a high level of skill for all of these employees and their capability as a seamless, high-performing unit has never been higher. Achievements: In the past month, this crew replaced 100 feet of failed 30-inch storm drain running through private property. This was an extraordinarily complex project involving substantial encroachment into a fenced backyard with numerous structures in close proximity to a residential structure. The cooperation extended by the owner was due in large part to the workmanship and tact of the crew allowing successful project completion with minimal inconvenience and no complaints on the part of the homeowner.
This crew played a key role in the enhancement of Gilchrist park when they constructed a 78 square yard concrete slab during the erection of a recreational pavilion. This work required the team to work in close concert with a private contractor when they poured the foundation around support posts. They worked non-stop for many hours to overcome an accelerated curing process due to elevated mid-day temperatures after delayed delivery of concrete. The result was a quality, professional finish that met the ambitious project completion timeline.
In addition to these larger scope projects, the crew executed a multitude of routine projects, completing over five dozen service calls including street patches, sidewalk repair, driveway adjustments, construction of various drainage structures, and cleaning drains and catch basins.
There is no harder working crew in the city and none that more embodies the ideal of “customer service”. Each team member exhibits extraordinary pride in workmanship and gives of themselves for the sake of the team and the City of Waycross. For this reason, the Concrete / Drainage TEAM, richly deserves recognition as Employees of the Month.
